Hair dresser Vidal Sassoon CBE has died  at his home in Bel Air, Los Angeles, in the presence of his family.

Vidal Sassoon (17 January 1928 – 9 May 2012)

In June 2011 it was reported that Sassoon had been diagnosed with leukaemia two years earlier, and was receiving treatment in Beverly Hills and London, his death is said to be as a result of his Leukaemia.  A memorial service has been  planned for a later date.

His family issued a statement that read

“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vidal Sassoon CBE, who died this morning at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by loved ones. The 84-year-old hairdresser was born in 1928 and sadly lost his battle with leukaemia today. He became the most celebrated hairdresser in the world having begun his career as an apprentice during the Second World War, going on to revolutionise an industry through his iconic haircuts, salons, schools and product lines. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 20 years Ronnie, his children, grandchildren, family and friends”

Neil Cornelius, the owner of Sassoon’s first solo venture, said that his death was the loss of a

“hairdressing legend. It is very, very sad because I grew up in the East End like Vidal and from the age of 11 I wanted to be a hairdresser like Vidal. I remember the first time I met him. I have washed the hair of Princess Diana, I have met Nelson Mandela, but meeting Vidal Sassoon topped all of those. I know it sounds crazy but I could not sleep on the night before i met him for the first time. He was a hairdressing legend.”

Twitter, and websites have been inundated with words of grief and respect for Vidal Sassoon, including from other hair stylists,   Lee Stafford said that

“Sassoon revolutionised the way everybody wears their hair today, he also made British hairdressing the best in the world, he was my hero.”

Tabatha Coffey wrote on Twitter

“my great day turned into a devastating day. RIP Vidal Sassoon thank you for all you have done for our industry and for me.”

John Barrett of the John Barrett Salon at Bergdorf Goodman said that Sassoon

“was the creator of sensual hair. This was somebody who changed our industry entirely, not just from the point of view of cutting hair but actually turning it into a business.”

The Female Boss aka Tulisa has released her debut solo track (We Are Young), a dance record that is sure to be heard around the clubs this summer, and it’s gone straight in at number one, on the UK official charts.

This is the first track we have seen from Tulisa since the break up of her group N-Dubz earlier last year. Tulisa has been busy over the past year sitting on the panel as a judge on X factor, but has still found time to start her solo album.

Cash strapped Britain has proved itself selfish, in a recent survey, showing that when it comes to food, we are just not sharing.

We may be in the middle of a recession, but a new survey* has revealed that us Brits are as self-serving as ever, with one in ten admitting to becoming more selfish since the downturn first bit five years ago.

The study found that almost one in five Brits are more concerned with looking after number one when it comes to their eating habits in particular. Nearly a quarter of those surveyed confessed to never sharing food with friends or family members, with more than a third blaming this on ever-soaring food prices.   Those aged 18-24 were found to be the worst culprits when it comes to putting themselves first – one in ten admitted to always nabbing the larger piece when sharing food, with a small percentage even going to extreme lengths such as eating in private to avoid sharing in the first place.

Nevertheless, Fudges, who commissioned the research exposing the belt-tightening traits of modern Britain, is backing the camp of Brits who remain steadfast in their generosity, and claim to still share food at least once a week despite the tightening grip of the recession. The Dorset-based biscuit makers is launching a campaign designed to encourage even the most miserable amongst us to spend more time with friends and family by breaking a biccie.

The Managing Director of Fudges says, “I always think of Britain as a nation of sharers so it’s surprising to think that the reality is we’re just getting more selfish.”

This survey is showing us that not only is the current economic situation, taking its toll on all of our finances, but our social lives too, is it not time to come together, dust off those dinner party plates, get together with your friends and family, bring back good old family sunday lunches, or treating your loved ones to a social evening of food, conversation and laughter.

This Summer is full of things to celebrate with the Jubilee, and the London 2012 Olympics, let’s get together as a nation, share our food and bring Britain back to a happier more social time.

Today marks the first Anniversary of the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton, now known as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since, Britons took to the streets to celebrate in traditional british manner, of street parties, and bunting, making our nation smile for a day, during these economically critical times. Hundreds of millions of people across the world watched, as TV channels broadcast live. Kate Middleton walked down the isle, at Westminster Abbey, in a beautiful lace Alexander McQueen dress.  William, waited at the front of the Abbey, looking every inch a Prince, in the Red Irish Guards Tunic, uniform.

Well a year has past and what a year it has been for young Royal Couple, a year that has seen the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge  mark several important milestones including their first Royal overseas tour to North America, the announcement of a number of charitable patronage’s, Kate’s first solo public speech, as well as an addition to the family in the form of a pet cocker spaniel, Lupo, a spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge has confirmed that they are spending the weekend of their first anniversary “privately”.

In a year in which the spotlight is well and truly on all things British and London related, British toy company, Arklu, and photographer Duncan Raban have imagined what this weekend, might entail.

Duncan explains the motivation behind his photos: “I love to put children’s toy characters into real life human everyday situations. I guess this fun concept seems to bring out the childhood in people’s hearts and it’s been so much fun watching people enjoy this kind of theatre on the streets.”

Whatever the couple have really been ding this weekend to celebrate their first anniversary, im sure they have taken timeout to spend with each other and look back on their amazing year.

Happy Anniversary

Women are misdiagnosing themselves on the internet .

One in four British women has misdiagnosed themselves on the internet, a study revealed yesterday.   Researchers have found that Dr Google is now the first port of call for women with genuine health concerns, who are almost twice as likely to check online before consulting a doctor or even talking to Mum.   A trend towards trusting the internet over friends, family and medical professionals meant half of the 1,000 women studied would first try to treat an ailment themselves rather than risk embarrassment or the inconvenience of waiting times for GP appointments.

But searching their symptoms online and self-medicating has led a tenth of the country’s women to endure unpleasant side effects as a result of their misdiagnosis.   The research, which was commissioned by feminine health brand Balance Activ, found a quarter of British women will trust the internet for advice on treatments if they find their symptoms embarrassing.   Penny McCormick, spokesperson for Balance Activ said yesterday: ”There is an increasing trend towards using the internet to diagnose any irregularities or worries we have about our bodies.   ”The web gives us a wealth of information that can be useful in reducing our worries until we’re able to gain proper advice from a medical authority if it’s needed, but the results show how easy it is to make mistakes when diagnosing ourselves.   ”It’s important we learn which information to trust online and that we’re able to make the distinction between what can be self-diagnosed and easily treated, and what definitely requires the help of a medical professional. What can seem like a relatively harmless but embarrassing symptom could develop into something more serious so it is important for women to ensure they are asking the right questions and treating certain conditions effectively in the first instance.”

The report also found despite having diagnosed themselves online and decided on a high street treatment, 45 per cent never they are buying the right thing with a pharmacist or counter staff.   The agonising wait for answers is what drives thirty per cent of women to look for help online, which is a growing factor of the ‘instant’ life we all live in these days,  while one in ten hesitate to tell friends or family of any health problems because they don’t want the issue to be ‘made into a fuss’.

Tellingly, three-quarters of the 1,000 women surveyed from all ages and all walks of life, said there are certain health issues they aren’t comfortable talking to friends and family about.   Indeed, women are more likely to trust their own diagnosis when embarrassed by their symptoms – half of the study would always try to deal with the problem themselves before seeking help from others.   Over a quarter of respondents dread talking to doctors about anything they are embarrassed about.   Most women had spent a few days worrying over symptoms before speaking to anyone.   Because of waiting times, thirty per cent only visit the doctor as a last resort, while half of the women studied said they would always try all they can to cure themselves and only seek medical advice if the problem didn’t go away.

So ladies, if you are worried about any health problems, embarrassed by a certain symptom, or feel like you just don’t have time to visit your GP, find time.  It is so important for us all to stay healthy, and be dianosed correctly, at anytime that we find our health any less that 100%, and of course recieve the correct treatment.
